Anybody use scroll saw files? The kind that replace your blade in the saw. Just curious how they worked if anyone tried them.

I haven't used the files because they generally do not fit RBI saws. I would like to try them if, and when, one is made that can be mounted in the RBI Hawk blade holder(s). I know that is no help to you Dusty, but I thought I would make the comment. Moon

Kelly, Someone gave me a couple different SS files, and to be honest even the finest one is too aggressive for wood in my opinion. It seems to me they would be useful if you were scrolling metal and needed to clean-up/shape after cutting. Moon, I have no idea what the Hawk blade holders look like, but the files I have look like flat blade stock (a little thicker than most blades) with the grit bonded to it, leaving a plain end to simulate a 5" pinless blade. Use aluminium oxided clothed sanding belt or emery. Using a sharp utility knife, cut stips 1/8" wide same length as your blades. Don't use too coarse grit. Careful when ajusting tension. Last edited by boogatoo; 05-18-2006 at 01:03 PM. |
