Delta SS250 - Dallas area

I upgraded to a DW788 last year and my trusty SS250 has just been sitting, gathering dust (and taking up valuable space). It's a good basic saw and I would like to see it go to a good home. If you know of anyone who needs a basic saw in the area but may be on a tight budget, I would be happy to donate it to them. I really don't want to get into shipping it. I would just like to see someone else get some use out of it and maybe get into the hobby who might not otherwise be able to do so.

From== Bless you for donating your saw= I am from the Texarkana area (20 miles west ) Please find someone that will get it free and not donate it to the thrift shops who double price it just to make a profit- may I suggest maybe the senior center or something that will let others use it if you do not know of a individual. I am sure there is a old scroller out there that would love to play again that has lost his/her saw due to being in a care center- I would miss my house should I have to go but I would be lost not having my saws- even tho they are not being used now- I would still be lost without them here.

I appreciate the sentiment. That's why I was hoping to find someone in the area who would like a saw, but maybe can't afford it right now. I hadn't thought about care centers - I'll look into that if nobody steps forward and wants the saw. I certainly got my money's worth out of it and learned to really like scrolling using it.

By the way, I hope you are feeling better - hang in there. Things can be hard at times, but you just have to believe there's a plan and this all fits into it, even if we don't understand just what that plan is.

If you have a local carver's group, there may be someone there who would treasure your saw, or they may know of someone. I got into scrolling by cutting carving blanks on the scroll saw - I've cut at least hundreds of blanks on the three saws I've owned - and there are a lot of folks who are just getting into carving and cannot cut their own blanks. I guess ideally they would have a band saw, but a ss can do a very fine job on the smaller blanks, and it is much more compact, and MUCH less intimidating. My earlier saws have all gone the same way, and one is now on it's third owner. We gotta spread this addiction around!!

I think highschools and kids clubs could always use a good saw.
They could also use a good demonstration or two.

I just bought a delta ss250 from my baby brother in colorado the shipping was 27.00 us postal service.
i am getting to like it more than my dremel 1680 its a light weight saw in compairisence, but heavy enough for me to cut out my carvings from 2x2x12" basswood with,,,
its slim on comfort and accessories but a great basic saw...

You should call around to local Junior High or High School's in the area and see if they could use it. If your school system is anything like what we have here in Oregon they would GREATLY appericate the donation. I wish I had the money to do the same here. Thats where I got into wood working was in school. Loved it ever since!

Have you checked to see if there is a local scrollsaw or woodworking club?
After last years local woodworking show Rigid donated all of their Show tools to our club.
Check the SAW web site for clubs.

Thanks to all for your suggestions. I was able to get in contact with a local guy who runs a non-profit day care center for mentally handicapped adults and teaches them to scroll saw as part of their activities. I gave the saw to him for use in his program, where I'm sure it will be put to good use.
