Dremel Saw Maintance

Well about an hour into making saw dust today my Dremel started making a unusual noise along with a slight loss of speed. I shut her down and went for the owners manual. I followed the instructions and checked both brushes, both were fine. I then squirted an ample amount of oil into the arm bearing ports as instructed. Now I am waiting till tomorrow as instructed to turn the saw over and do the same to the two ports on the other side. I hope this cures the problem.

I've had the saw about 8 months now and this is the first time I have done any maintance to it. The manual said I should be doing this every 50 hours of use....oopps I hope its not to late and I have not harmed the bearings.

Any other suggestions?

i too am a dremel 1680 user.

And about that time period of use i noticed all of a sudden my saw starting to knock lightly and slow in preformance.

as you i rolled it side to side for 2 days and poured oil in the bering pluggs.

i dont feel my saw was hurt but the knock did go away unless im crosscutting the wood grain in thinknesses over an inch.

i also noticed my blade when the saw is set up and running the blade looks to move left to right right where it comes through the table, leaving me to believe the lower arm is out of adjustment.

or the blurry blade as i have heard it mentioned here on the fourm.

I work my saw hard sometimes cutting out carving blanks from basswood, and i probobally over tighten the blade from time to time but its been worth the $75.00 i payed for it in a end of year close out at lowes. it normally sold for $219 then add more for the stand, but it all came in the box. I didnt ask questions,,,,

i got a delta ss 250 on the way from colorado, and when it gets here ill tear into the dremel and see what its internals look like for wear and tear, ill keep you posted...

If you pull the dust plugs at the lube points on the 1800 you will see that they have a bit of a cup made into them. To keep from having to unbolt the saw from the bench and tipping it I just filled the cups in the dust plug with SAE 20 (see hardware store for small quanitys) and then quickly re-install the plugs. Worked just fine. Maybe the 1680 has the same arrangement.

Well my Dremel locked up tight in less then 5 min. after starting it up, so I have decided to return it to Lowe's and go for the Dewalt 788.

That's what I love about my Hegner, 2-4 drops of oil every 10 hours of cutting and ready to go. I can even oil from the top and not turn it over, not that I would know what I was looking for anyway. I replaced the round white things that hold the tension arm back and that is all I have had to do in 4 years of cutting!! Sorry about my lack of "technical terms" but that's what I told the guy at Hegner when I told him my tension arm was flying forward while cutting, looked like the "round white thingys weren't holding" and HE knew exactly what I needed! LOL. I also have a 20 YEAR full warranty on the motor since I bought it at a show and the extended warranty was one of the show specialsl (love those shows.) PLUS - it's considered commercial use not hobby use. (That is one thing alot of people don't keep in mind when buying a saw the type of usage and it can void the warranty) I use my saw an average of 10-15 hours a week, working full time that is all I can manage, and am quite pleased with it. It was "pricey" when I got it but well worth it in the long run. I have had absolutely no down time - except when I was the cause of the down time. I know this doesn't help with your problem but just a few things to think about if you decide to but another one.

I have Dremel 1680 that died about 9 months after I bought it. The arm won't go up and down. Called dremel since it's got a 2 year warranty and they thought it was something with the on/off switch. So they sent me a new one, I replaced it and still nothing. The motor turns on, it just won't make anything move. I'm in Georgia and the thought of paying shipping charges to ship it to be fixed just kind of really ticked me off. So I went and bought a Delta. I have a Delta repair facility that's not too far from the house in case anything goes wrong.

I will be taking my dremel in for service this summer as I'll driving right past Racine, WI on my way to visit family in Oshkosh. I'll get it fixed and then have two saws to play with. Just what I need, an extra chance to chop off a finger

Hey!! Look me up on your way by. Im about 8 miles west if I 94 just off Hwy 11 in Racine county. Also, plan that trip around the right time to attend the Midwest scrollsaw trade show in Richland Center. Or, is this trip revolving around the EAA Fly in? Dale
