Default What saw do you own?

Since the question of what saw should I buy keeps coming up, I thought that maybe a poll of the members here might help. If BobD could put a sticky on it and keep it at the top, (maybe put a copy of it in the Tools section too) anybody could find it easily. He could also lock it so there could not be any opinions posted. If you own more than one saw, vote for your personal favorite. (This isn't Chicago where they vote early and often!)
Just a thought.

Errr... sorry, but I need multiple options!

(Okay, who shouted "Show-off!"? )

I can't even vote along the lines of which saw is my favorite because I find that different saws are better for different types of work.

Red face

I'm trying not to fan the flames here. I voted for the saw I use the most which is an Excalibur. Something I'd like to see though is price breaks. Something along the lines of what is the best saw for under $200, under $500 etc. While virtually everyone agrees (certain current arguments excluded) that the Dewalt is a top-notched saw, not everyone can or wants to spend $500 on a saw. That being said, I think the Craftsman 16" VS/Dremel 1680 are about the best low priced saws out there. The reason I put them together is they're essentially the same saw (both mfg. by Rexon Industries), the Dremel has a light while the Craftsman has a different table tilt mechanism (which I really like). If someone had told me I had to spend $500 on a saw when I started, I seriously doubt I would've ever gotten into scrolling in the first place. When I found I liked scrolling and reached the limits of the less expensive saw, I did my homework and selected the saw that best suited the type of scrolling that I like to do.
As mentioned in Rick's latest article in Saw-Dust, I wonder if this push for rather expensive tools is keeping people out of the hobby. The best thing about scrolling is that is CAN be a very inexpensive and very rewarding hobby. $100 for a saw, $20 or $30 for a gross or so of blades, some scrounged wood and you can be off and running and creating wonderful gifts and items for yourself. I started with a Dremel 1671 which took only pinned blades and had 2 speeds, but I was able to start on this adventure for a grand total of $75. There is virtually no other hobby that you can get started on for that little money.
(Off my soap-box now)

WB,
I can modify your poll if you want to include the multiple options--but maybe we should break it down according to the prices...I wouldn't want a beginner to think they HAVE to spend $500 to get the most popular saw.

Let me know--I can work it out if need be...

BTW, I will be working a forum Bill of Rights because of all this bickering!

Bob, go ahead and add the multiple vote. Can you wipe the slate clean and we start all over?

Great points Kevin!

My first saw was the same kind of Dremel. The feet were little suction cups for the kitchen table.

A bill of rights. That is going to be quite a task Bob. I don't envy you.

I wonder if as a group we could come up with a check list for new scrollers describing what to look for in a saw. We all have our favorite features that we think are indispensable.

It could be pasted as a sticky in the top of the tools section just as a statement.

I know people will still ask about a particular saw specially when they have narrowed down their selection. I think I am going to modify my signature to include the saws I use. If people have questions about those saws they can email me.... icons would be cooler though Bob

Default What saws do you own

Hey everyone,
Here is a place to post what saws you own. If you own a saw that I haven't included inthe list, please PM me and I'll add it to the list.

I've also merged the posts from the other saw poll thread onto this one.

I've also set it up so people can see what sort of saws you own. If you want, I can change that, but I thought it would be cool to see what kind of saws everyone has!

Bob
