| Just got my brand new EX-21. Serious money for a serious saw. Since I spend 5-8 hours per day on a scroll saw, I thought is was time to move up. So far I absolutely love this saw.
Still have my 788 and am going to take it into the DeWalt store to have them go over it.

| Howdy folks , my first post, Iam new at this , I have 2 saws , one really old old Craftsman, Takes 2 ppl to pick it up an move it 3 ppl would be eaiser, its got this hand crank lever on the top, of a round tube , which has the recoil spring housed in it. on the outside of the tube is numbered markings, 6" ,5" etc., Takes only non pinned blades, We call the saw Thumper, due to the sound it makes, it Has a lower housing that the blade attaches to that has a offset crank in it. Filled with oil,,,, An I just got a small ryobi,,, The ryobi changes blades easy , but sure shakes an vib. a lot.,,,, Oh also wanted to say what a great site, Thanks |

| Hi- I am new to this group. As a teacher who just transferred from HS to MS woodworking I am very interested in scroll saws. They are the first power saw other than the portable jig saw that my 7th graders get to use. Or program has gone through a lot of them and I would like some advise. Should I repair the big old Rockwell's that have crank arm problems or spend the same money on the dremel's or something else.
Thanks,
jim in Kalamazoo |

| The first saw I used was my dad's Craftsman 16" it only took pinned blades. Then I bought a used 16"ryobi that I used for about 6 month it was pinned and pinless and my lateset one is a 26" Hawk G4 that I bought at their scratch and dent sale for 750.00 with a 5 year warrenty I"ve got 3 years left on the warrenty and I'll probably buy another one if anything ever goes seriusly wrong with it after the warrenty is up.

| General International which makes the Excalibur EX 21 is now making a 30" saw. List is $1300 here in Canada. Some stores are selling it for $999. It has a different tension lever than used on the Dewalt 788 and the EX21 but it is still on the front. |

I will stick to my 18", but then, it would be nice to have just a little bit bigger throut. ok hush now, I said bigger, not deeper. ok. can't get past anyone. hear.

| Hi .
Here are a couple ideas since we're throwing them around . How about favorite bandsaw , thickness planner ,lathe , sanders . and other related wood tools ?
I agree with Kevin re starter tools and price .Too bad there was'nt a rent before you buy on some of the more expensive saws . Perhaps there is . Scroll the dickens for a month and see if it is suitable . Don't most stores have a 30 day return policy ? Nothing like finding out before you buy what works and this would be the place to find out . Having said that ,I think if one is at this forum we have already spent a ton of loot and have cast aside those tools we tried and did'nt like .As a beginner ,I think a person has a tendency to blame himself if the work does'nt come out right ,whereas it could be the equipment and by the time you figure it out the warranty has past . Oh , hell just scroll with a friend .
Cheers .Roger |
