Default DW788 - tensioner and variable speed

I'm brand new to scroll sawing. Just bought a DW788 and tried it out. At first I thought that the variable speed contol was not working. I could turn the dial and nothing happened. Then I discovered that if I backed off on the amount of tension I had on the blade, the speed control worked just fine. Is this normal? Also, there seems to be a fair amount of vibration at a high speed. Is this normal as well?

I have never heard of that problem. Try calling Dewalt and see if thats a known problem. I have 2 Dewalts, and havent encountered that ever.

I have no idea whether this is relevant or not, but some time back, DeWalt started having their machines made in Asia. Don't remember what the cut off date was. It probably doesn't make any difference, but who knows.
