Welcome Robert!

I don't know much about the saw, but I had to say hello to a fellow Scot! What kind of things do you cut?

I understand that a lot of people accross the pound likke the Hegner saw. Check this site: http://www.finescrollsaw.com/ There is a good explanation about that saw. You will have one for life.

Hi Robert

The Delta 40540 has probably the best reputation of all the saws in the mid price range that are available in the UK, but I don't know much about the 40570. I'm presuming it's pretty good too, and at a price of £215 (from Hobbies of Dereham) it's a lot cheaper than the Hegner 2SV at £510.

I haven't handled a Delta myself so I can't really make a comparison against the Hegner.

Sorry - I'm not much use on this one, I'm afraid.

Robert--

By now you may have already purchased your saw and, if so, so be it. I would suggest that you purchase the "best" you can afford. I don't know how limited resources across the pond are, but no one can afford to continually purchase cheap saws. Everyone has a preference (just like automobiles and religion) and you can't argue with them. I suggest you look at Hegner, DeWalt, and the "green" version (in the U.S. they are red) of the RBI before you buy. A "good" saw will last a long time and will be well worth the extra investment. All the best and may you make the right decision for your purposes.

Default new saw

Well I was thinking of my budget

after all the saw moves the blade and I move the wood.
Blade changes are a pain though.

Hard to believe some of the awesome work that has been done with a saw like this.

Hi Carl,

This one was made by using a hand frame. His wife is helping him. The frame is 30 cm long.

It took them almost 6 years to build.
510.00 pound is only €730.00 (Euro)They sure sell the Hegner a lot lower priced than over in the US. Buy the best and you will have some for life.

Hi Carl,

Here is one more they made. It is the church from Ulm, Germany. It has the tallest steeple of all churches.
