Default Cutting Mother of Pearl

Does anyone know why the scroll saw will only cut MOP extremely slowly, whereas the same blade using a hand saw cuts quickly and easily.(cutting two 2mm blanks together in a sandwich to produce small bookmatched detail for mandolin peg head)

I have a fair understanding of wood and how tools accomplish their task... but what is Mother of Pearl (MOP)?

The only other in your discription is speed and heat ,you must have a some thing other than what I call m.o.p.,may be man made ??? any way if the same blade cuts it by hand ,all I can see is speed and heat !

My Best ! Carl
