Default Magnifier for scrolling

I just picked up a 3X clip-on magnifier from Harbor Freight. Gave it a quick try and it seems to work. Advantage is that you can move your head a lot more to get a better angle than is possible with a mounted magnifier. I normally use a mounted magnifier with a circular florescent bulb. There are times that it is helpful to have the light hit the piece from a different angle to let me see the blade's relationship to the pattern. This seems to provide that option. The cost was $6 which is a lot cheaper than the mounted lights. Might be an option that could benefit some scrollers.

Thanks for the feedback. I might check them out next time I'm in town. You say clip on. To your regular glasses I gather.

I use the 'head band type magnifier' from Grizzley... It has a 3 X magnifier lense and then another lense that you flip down from inside to increase the magnification (I believe to 5+) and then it also has an additional exterior monocular lense that will further enhance the magnification of either/or all... It also has two exterior battery powered LED lights if you need them for extra light... I love mine and use it every time I carve due to a vision slight problem... I've 'sold' several via my carving clubs and thought it might be worth checking out and well worth your time/trouble and expense (it's super cheap!!!). Just go to grizzley.com and check it out...plus I think H.F. also carries one that is similar...good luck & enjoy!

Hi Kenn
I just spent an hour at Griz looking for the head band to no luck. Can you help?

The head band magnifier made my neck cramp because the field of view was so narrow.

Hey Chuck! Look on page 440 of the 2011 Grizzly Catalog...upper left hand corner... The unit is called 'Head Magnifier with LED'...Model #T10161 @ $9.25 per unit. As I said, I can't get along without mine...use it everytime I carve or scroll saw! I think I mis-stated the magnification power of the three different lenses, but they work perfectly for me even when using the lowest magnification. Sorry, I didn't mention...they are also easily adjusted to different head sizes too...You certainly can't beat the price...try'em and you'll love'em!!!
Safe scrolling and carving to you!

I sent an e-mail to Griz and they told me about them. Also told me about the $8 S&H. Almost as much as the item. Told them I will wait until I need more.
Thanks anyway..
