You might want to check craigs list as you can often find some good buys there. I know some people don't like buying used but I have had good luck that way.

I bought a brand new Dremel saw 1 1/2 years ago. I found it on Craigslist. It cost $100. Maybe you might find one here: craigslist: youngstown classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events or here craigslist: cleveland classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events

I think Grizzly still has Dewalt 788 combo @ $449 and here a Lowes they carry an Hitachi CW40 for $179 that doesn't look too bad and have seen some good review on. You may also be able to fit your present saw with an adapter kit to use pinless blades. If ya can do it go for the 788 you'll love it. Your wife sounds like mine so I adopted this philosophy. I've been extremely lucky on craigslist. I was able to purchase (1) of the two Dewalts I now own for $200 and the second one I just picked up two weeks ago for just under $300. Both run great and I'm very happy with them. Keep your eyes open there are some great deals out there, just be careful and thoroughly test them out, take some scrap wood and blades with you just in case you need them.

Just to add to the Craigslist story, got a nearly new(4 months old, made maybe 15 cuts) Hitachi and a Delta 1" belt sander with disc for $150. Took the allen wrench blade tightener off the bottom and swapped with the wing screw for the hold down. No tools for blades. Also noticed a number of high-end saws selling for deep discounts during fair season in late summer.
