Red face EX 21 Blade oscillation

I have an EX21. Lately I've been having trouble with the blade moving from side to side on the stroke. It seems to be too much, I can see it clearly. I've tried adjusting the tension and the speed. I remembered there maybe an issue with the set screws in the blade holders. I have adjusted them so they are equidistant from the thumb screw. That helped some but there is still visible movement from side to side as the blade travels up and down. I have checked square to table, and that is okay. What else?
Help!! Any other suggestions?

Thanks

I have an EX21 that was one of the first machines shipped out of China. I was experiencing the same thing with the blade. I live in Houston so I ran my saw up to ray hoping he could fix it while I waited. He didn't know off hand what the problem was so he kept it and shipped it back to me. It worked fine for about 20 minutes and now is worse than ever. I think this problem has Ray Buffaloed. I just got my saw back yesterday and now I am scratching my head again.

Kip PM'd this to me awhile back after I'd spent the day having the same problem on the store EX21. Hope it helps.

************

1)Check and tighten as needed all bolts on stand and attachment of saw to stand.

2)The knob on the top at the back of saw (note this knob isn't to adjust blade tension) moves the top arm. Take a measurement at front of saw from table top to upper arm. Do the same at the back of table. Adjust knob until they are the same space apart.

3)Looking at blade from front of saw make sure it is straight up and down (we're dealing with left to right squareness) when table is set at 90 degrees. You can move set screw on LEFT side of blade holders to move blade right or left as needed to square things up.

4)Next You want to make sure 2 bolts (one on left and one on right) directly beside table tilting lock knob are tight on front and back sides of saw.

5)Next tilt table all the way to right. Loosen four bolts on side that is facing up and two screws on table top (same side). Loosen front tilt lock knob make sure table is rotated fully to right and tighten front knob. Tighten 4 bolts and 2 screws.
Repeat for left side tilt.

If things aren't better yet then ...

6)Start saw running at slowest speed and stand beside saw and look at blade's front to back movement at the table's surface.

It should have around 1/16" or so of movement (I laid a piece of wood behind blade and noted how much it moved). If it's not okay turn saw off and loosen 3 screws that hold motor to saw. You should now be able to rotate motor with your hand. Start saw on SLOWEST speed. Rotate motor for the least amount of movement of blade. Cut off saw and tighten screws.

Chuck, not to change the subject, but, you mentioned that Ray shipped your saw back to you. I am trying to ship one & UPS wants a fortune to ship it( $161.00) from Az. to Mo. I just could not believe it. Anyway, I didn't mean to get off the subject, but, it blows me away. I don't have an EX21, but, it sounds like yours is a real problem. Are both top & bottom moving side to side? Good Luck with it. -- Perk

Perk, don't mind getting off the subject. When Ray first shipped my new saw from Dallas,Tx to Houston, TX UPS charged $51.00. When I left my saw in Dallas Ray took the table off and sent it home with me. Buy not shipping the table he said he could save about $20 dollars in shipping costs. In comparison it cost me over $50 in gas, 10 hours of driving time plus meals to take the saw to Dallas. But when you are retired you'll find any excuse to take a road trip.

Thanks Chuck, I appreciate your response. The person wanting to buy my Delta even thought of a friend Truck driver who was going to Cal. might be able to pick it up & take it back to Missouri. Unless he's going to San Diego, it would really be out of his way. They are trying to think of something, but, I give up. Cost more than the saw is worth.

I WAITED patiently for the Lord; And He inclined to me and heard my cry.
He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay,
And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.
He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God;
Many will see and fear
And will trust in the Lord.

Kip-Well I solved my problem, mostly, I didn't do everything Janette said but because of here post I decided to just sit down in front of saw and turn it on and watch and listen to it. Then turned it off and looked at it. I noticed that the top of the blade was bent to the right. Even though the blade was square withe table it was not on the set screw and the thumb screw was bending the blade into set screw hole. I took both set screws and thumb screws out and cleaned the ends with laquer thinner and then a piece of fine sandpaper. Then I took the little dealy bob out of the thumb screw to check and make sure the "O" ring was still good and then lubricated it with a tiny bit of vaseline and put it back. Put the set screws and thumb screws back and aligned the the blade in the center of the blade holder. Then I loosened the two screws that hold the blade holder in place on both the top and bottom and ran th saw for awhile and then retightened them and squared the blade with the table. Also tightened a couple of bolts on the other end of the arm that holds the blade holder.
Before I started the maintainance, when I would try to start a cut on a line the blade would be jumping from one side of the line to the other now it doesn't do that. I still have a tiny bit of side to side up by the upper blade holder but at the table level it is not perceptible. So with regular maintence you shouldn't have the problem I just had.
