Default Odd saw symptom.

Hello all,
I have a Craftsman 315216090 scroll saw that does not want to run when it is cold in the shop. If I heat up the motor with a blow dryer or heat gun, it will then function properly.

I have removed, inspected, and cleaned the motor brushes, and still have the same symptom. The brushes did not appear to be burnt, or worn. I have however ordered new brushes, but they are on backorder.

Do any of you have any other thoughts on what this problem may be?

Regards,

Have you checked the bearings. Old grease turns to glue when cold.

replace the on/off switch. it's pretty simple and you can get one at any hardware store. worked for me on both my old craftsman and my dewalt

The motors used on most scroll saws have very little starting torque. I suspect as you are warming the motor you are warming the rest of the saw at the same time. If possible keep your saw in a warmer location when not in use. Doing so will probably take care of your problem.
