You can tell a mans joys by the price of his toys. Or is it the number of his toys. Great buys John. Now you will need a retired wood worker willing to travel to a far away continent with his wife and grandchildren to run everything for you.

Nice toys. Wish I could find the space to get a planer.

Thumbs up

John the cloth backed belts used on the drum sander are expensive....about $20 here in NZ.....I use a paper backed Norton sandpaper which comes in
70mm widths whereas the correct stuff is 3" and as a result use only the outside clip to hold it on the drum and use masking tape to hold the inner end as the narrower paper does not line up for the inner end clip. The paper is Norton Adalox G216 which I think is used primarily by painters and comes in 50 metre rolls but does only cost about $4 per belt length. The more expensive belts did not seem to last much better than the cheaper paper mainly because the diameter of the drum is 125mm thus the circumference is only about 400mm which is really quite a short piece of sanding belt and wears out fairly quickly.

On the vertical oscilating sander I tape 1/2 a sheet of standard A275 Norton paper to the smallest sleeve, 20mm I think, and as it wears I cut off the worn outside bit and retape it to the old worn sleeve and get three replacements before having to put on a new 1/2 sheet. More recently I have used a paint roller whith a 1/4" bore and again about 20mm outside, on the
1/4" mandrel, and taped the sandpaper to that and this gives a slightly softer backing to the paper than the hard sleeve.

Now all you have to do is clear a space in the shop for them. You won't be able to find anything after all that cleaning. Better get busy. What were you thinking??

Seriously those are some pretty nice toys. Congratulations on the new additions to the shop.

G'day Rhys,
Thanks mate. You beat me to the punch. I was going to ask where you got your sleeves and belting. Some great ideas and you can bet your behind, I'm going to use them.

I love the idea of the paint roller to soften the bobbin.
On my home made one, I wrap the wooden spindles I turned for it in foam.(rubber)

I've been hunting all over the net for Spindle sleeves, as I reckon the machines will only come with 80g and I wanted some finer ones so that when Santa (Penns Cartage) turns up, I'm ready to go.

I did find some belting for the drum, but as you said, It aint cheap.

Thanks for the comments folks, even those with a touch of Green.

I'll let you all know how things turn out, If I can find the shed door for the dust I'm about to generate.

BTW, I'll try do a bit of a write up on the Dewalt compound mitre saw, when I've tried out a few more features. It is one smooth machine.

Now I've just gotta save them thar pennies for two more toys, a Buzzer and a midi lathe.

Looks like a heap more Name Trains are on he cutting list

Just got to wait until they get here now 7 - 10 Days they reckon.

When they arrive, it'll be a BRAG.

Hey John, I'm available for adoption. I can pack a bag full of skids and be ready to go on a moments notice. I'm mostly house broke too.
If you have a fenced yard I'm damn near perfect. Oily
