Default Adopted A Stray

Hello,
While I was gone I went to the local flea market and saw this setting in the corner of a booth. It seemed so lonley and neglected that I just had to rescue it.
The owner told me that he bought it new and decided that his Jigsaw worked better. Well at that point I knew he had no idea how to use it and Judging by the insert I could tell that indeed he thought it was a Jigsaw and had been pushing the blade into the insert.
I believe that it will only take Pin Blades, but for the $20.00 price I figured it would make a good back up saw.

If anybody knows if this saw can be adapted to use flat blades please let me know. It's an Ryobi SC162VS
Thanks
Rick

Good find. How could he have mistaken a scroll saw for a jig saw though?

Ryobi SC162VS parts breakdown on ToolPartsDirect.com is one of two sites for parts I found, but no luck on the swap. Sorry!

Remember to spay and neuter all new pets....My ryobi didn't look like that one...there is an adaptor for pinless blades but it sure was a bugger to work with.

Whew...that's looking a bit rough, like it's been rode hard and put away wet. But, like you said, for $20 you did real good, even if does take pinned blades. Might make a good "travel saw" to take to exhibitions, etc. Also good for teaching beginners without endangering your major tool.
Nice find! I've got to get out more.

Bubba

You'd be amazed, this is how I got my Dewalt 788 w/stand and light for $200. Guy bought it to do work on his duplex rental building not realizing what it was. If he used it more than twice it was alot. His loss, my gain!!

Long before there was the hand held tool everyone knows as a "jig saw", there was another tool, almost the very same machine we now call a "scroll saw", but it was sold as a "jig saw". Some were quite large and some had a removable top arm so you could use the bottom blade clamp only to hold the blade. This was called "sabre sawing". I have two "jig saws", one from the 1930's and the other from the 1950's. I doubt they would be very handy for fretwork or Christmas decorations but I love them just the same!
The first hand held "jig saws" as we call them now, were originally called "sabre saws". Now how confusing is that!?! (got one of those from the 1960's too)
And no, I was not around to buy any of them new, I just like old tools
Good find on the neglected scroll saw btw!!
