Default Xyron 9" Laminator

After reading the raving comments in JGR catalog, I bought the Xyron 9" Laminator Cold Laminating, Cold Lamination Supplies It is easy to get the adhesive onto a pattern - just insert the pattern and crank the laminator handle - out comes the pattern with adhesive on the back. Cut the pieces and separate the backing, then apply onto the wood. Now my experience was not wonderful with the pattern staying onto the wood as I scrolled. So I have to admit I only used it once. Until I wanted to insert a Space Needle into the Seattle puzzle. Then it worked wonderfully. I guess it was because the scrolling on a puzzle didn't create as much saw dust or it didn't take as long to scroll around or I was more patient. It was very easy to remove both from the wood and from a picture (puzzle). As for value for my $ - well. . .I didn't send it back and I'm glad I have it and greatness is achieved with toys. (smile ) Would I buy it again - probably. Maybe I just need to work with it more. BTW - it seems to be on sale right now. If you would like me to do something to test it more, let me know, I'll do a test and report back.

Hi, Sally.

I have the same device and have been happy with it. By the way, you can buy permanent adhesive cartidges as well which will work well for your smaller postcard puzzles (gluing to wood). The glue is acid-free. The 9" feed limit provides size limitations, but it is handy nevertheless.

The only caution before buying is that the refill cartridges are very expensive. Kind of like a printer; the machine is reasonably priced but the refills inks are very costly.

Refills for permanent or temporary adhesives can cost from $30-40. Best thing to do is look for sales.

Ouch the refills are cost prohibitive to say the least.....especially if a person were going to do alot of projects.

Well, I haven't used mine too much so haven't needed a refill. When the time comes - where do you find sales?

Sometimes the local craft stores will throw a 40% off coupon in the paper (eg Michael's). The refills get you another 40 feet, I believe.

Hi all,
The website listed in JGR's newsletter has it on sale for 49.95 and refills on sale
for 24.50. When I checked at my local Michaels it was 100.00.
She showed it to us and ran a pattern piece thru while we were there and I can see why it would be really nice to have.

Several of our club members have purchased this item, myself included. I used it to do to do the Koala and had no lifting problems. I used the removable adhesive. The surface must be dust free.
I had a 50% off coupon for Micheals when I bought it. My wife bought the cartridge with another coupon. This system will sve me a great deal of time when I start to do my Christmas ornaments, just peel and stick. No blue tape or removable contact paper, no spray glue, etc.

thank you Sally. It sounds like it would be more suited for intarsia patterns as opposed to big fretwork patterns that take days to cut.

Dale,
If you use the removable adhesive it would work great on the fretwork. I will post some more when I start to do my Christmas inventory, that will be a true test of the holding ability of the adhesive.
