Default Saw Sharpener

Hi Everyone,

I just purchased a Chicago brand Electric Saw Blade Sharpener Model #96687 from Harbor Freight.

http://www.harborfreightusa.com/usa/...ubmit2=find+it

I am wondering if any of you have one of these and if you like it. I found the operating manual to be poorly written, so I am doing a lot of trial and error experimenting.

Any tips on it's proper use? It just doesn't seem to be too user friendly.

Any help is appreciated.

El

Chicago Electric is known for extremely poor manuals. Good luck figuring it out.

I've never seen anything like that. What did it cost?

The cost of this unit is $60. I also ordered an extra set of grinding wheels for $10. Probably won't need them for a while, but I thought I may as well order now in case they aren't available when I do need them.

I don't sharpen my scrollsaw blades. but I do sharpen most all the other blades, even a band saw blade , sometimes, but mostly. I just sharpen my other blades with files. much faster. and I get what I wont. I do use jigs though. your friend Evie

Sorry, Mick, it's designed for circular saw blades. I too have a ton of dull scroll saw blades. LOL

I'm beginning to think I should have saved my money and sharpen my blades the old fashioned way like Evie does.

I've never tried to sharpen any band saw blades, tho. I think I will give that a try. Got lots of dull band saw blades too.

Well, then, what about the spiral scrollsaw blades??? They are kind of circular! <BIG GRIN>

I've been working with this tool for a week now, and I have come to the conclusion that it was a total waste of money. I simply can't get the thing set up correctly. The manual is of no use whatsoever. It has two poor quality photos, one showing how to attach the handle to the motor, and the other how to install the safety shield.

So, if you are considering purchasing a circular saw sharpener, don't choose this one.

That's kinda discouraging...I think I'd be taking a trip back to the store and swapping it for something you can use like a pin nailer....to make your own frames with....
