hello all, I am going to be buying a air filtration system in a couple of months and I was looking at the Jet N/A model but it has three speeds I think the top speed is 7200 cfm or something like that. I cleans a 10x 10x 8 in like 5 min. some of the other units advertise extra filters. So my question is: what is it that I should be looking at? filter replacement? Noise? what else? The Jet sells for about $329 my shop is about a12x12x8. thanks for allthe great input |

I have a homemade unit in my larger room. Its a basic furnace fan pushing the air threw furnace filters and all in a plywood box. I have a Delta ceiling unit in my small room which is about 14'X8'. The problem for me is I do not use it all the time and when I turn it on it blows dust, paper and anything else that is not nailed down all over the place. I am trying to get in the habit of running it on the low speed when in the shop. I am thinking of swapping the units as the Delta is rated for the bigger room. The remote is a handy thing to have.

kardar2: Here is what I use. Two wires are stretched between the two boxes to hang small parts for drying after varnish. The filter box has 2 filters at each of three faces. Each outer filter is removed when full and the inner is moved forward. A new filter is sprayed with glue and inserted at the inner position. A corner brace holds the side and end filters in place. A similar brace holds the bottom filters in position. A timer switch allows part of an hour or a hold position [during work] where it is now. The hour selection allows a self shut off after leaving the shop. Woodie |

I bought a grizzly unit and am VERY happy with it. If you take the time to think through your air movement, it shouldn't turn into an interior dust storm.

To all: I apologize for my poor post on dust control mechanism. As you can see, I was not successful in positing my pictures. They are taken in high density of 3.5 MB and more. My Mac e-mail allows a reduced pixel count and I tried to use that. Obviously without good result. My fault, not the computer of course. Let me try verbally. Over my 7 foot work bench, I installed my home made dust control system that I use together with a single stage dust collector. My system consists of two plywood boxes connected with a square sheet metal duct. Over my vice end [left] I have the first box which holds 3 pair of filters. (1) One pair facing the bottom, [at the work area where I stand doing most of my hand sanding] and (2) the left end of the box. (3) The third pair faces into the shop. The rear of the box faces a wall and the right side connects to the second box at the far right. The second box holds a furnace fan and motor. This exits into the shop at is directed toward my table saw. The filtered forced air exiting here will blow any dust from behind me and then to the saw so I am protected from dust somewhat by this. I spray glue on the inlet side of the filters when I change them, I then discard the outer filter, move the inner one to the outside and install a new one to the inner position. I take further advantage of the distance the two boxes are apart to string a heavy wire [actually two] and use these to hang small parts for drying after varnish. This allows me to coat all sides at one time. I have a wall timer switch to control the fan. I can set it for any amount of time up to one hour or in a hold position. I use it on hold and usually let the system run for 1 hour when I leave the shop. I have gained a lot of knowledge and project ideas on this site and want to contribute and pay back. Once I learn how to reduce my picture pixel content and to then learn to post them, I will be pleased to show any ideas that work for me. The truth, however, is that I prefer to 'play' in my shop rather than be on the computer. I reserve my computer for the important things like reading the news, reading the comics and checking my wood work sites. Woodie |
