Default Blade help

Hi guys

I could use a little advice from scroll saw users.

I think the first time I asked for help it was about saw blades and many of you suggested Flying Dutchman Blades so I bought the sampler (I think it was called) from Mike and you were right! there was a world of difference between those blades and the ones I got from Lowes.

For the last few months I have been working on what I call scroll saw decoys using 3/4" Poplar and 3/4" Select Radiata Pine, I make a pattern for each piece and glue them.

My question is; what would be the best blade for 3/4" solid stock? the widest blade (Polar #5 I think) in the sampler does the best job but it's still hard to keep it on the line (the thin blades are all over the place), I have tried different speeds but it still wants to follow the grain sometimes.

I'm down to my last wide blade and need to order more but I'm still not sure what blades will work the best.

Thanks guys

Here are the pictures of the last 4 carvings to give you an idea of what I'm working with.

Bill

I do intarsia and use almost exlusively 3/4 to 1" woods. I almost always use a regular #7 blade. I find the polars good for very hard woods but they aren't very good at tight turns. The Flying Dutchman are good blades, but they tend to be thicker and more aggressive. Everyone has their own preferences. Eventually you'll find one that works perfect for you.

Beautiful work by the way.

I don't do intarsia,
I cut Red oak, Cherry and Black Walnut.. 3/4" thick with the
Flying Dutchman - New Ultra Reverse #5 and use the #3 when it is a very small drill hole.
The blades just want to follow the line.

I use the the new UV#5 as well for 3/4" stock or a #7 depending on the type of wood.
Both FD...But that's just me.

Now more importantly..I love your work. Thanks for sharing your talent.

Hey Evie

Good to see you here, I always slip next door when I have scroll saw questions because these guys know their stuff.

William was already taken in this forum so I went with Guy ( I was working on Guy Fawkes at the time - my avatar).

I haven't been here for a while so I'm going to look around and see what everyone has been up to.
