Default Thinking About Getting an Excaliber 30 Advice Wanted

Hi Y'all, I have been looking at scroll saws again. I am looking to replace my Delta Q-3 18"vs. Well actually add another saw to my collection of tools. The Delta ain't done yet. I am interested in the Excaliber 30", if anyone has this model any comments on it would be greatly appreciated. Please be honest about your likes and dislikes of this saw as it is a major purchase for me. I would also like to see some close up photos of the blade clamping system. If you know of any short videos of this saw in use and blade changes that would be helpful in my decision also. . Steve P.S. My Delta is an 18" and I would like to gain a little more throat depth than 2 or three inches. Without starting a war please tell me what saws are avaible and some pro's & con's of those saws? Thanks. Steve

I have video on the old model on my web site under Scrollsaw Videos. I talk about the features on one and changing the blade on another. I think the new model is about the same.

I worked on the EX for a day at Woodcraft. The one in the store had quite a bit of vibration, which I understand if you go through a bunch of things - will fix it. I am getting ready to buy a new saw as well. I have a DeWalt - and plan to buy another DeWalt. Much less money. I feel it's a good value for the price.

For the money...I think I would go with another dewalt myself, as well. I think Kevin (jediscroller) has one of the Excalibur though. You might ask him.

Been looking at combining a couple photos from the book Merle. I am still trying to catch up on some unexpected orders and build more inventory for several fall shows. I will email you what I come up with later on. I have more time to develop new stuff between Christmas and spring. Steve

I havent heard much complaints on the 30 inch excal.I would expect anything that is a problem on the ex 21 would also be a potential problem on the 30, as its basically the bigger version of the same machine. And, if you want to add more than a couple inches of depth from your Q3, you dont have many options. I dont know if the RBI 226 is available yet for purchasing, but that would cost you more than the 30 inch Excal for sure.

I would go with the DeWalt, myself. I have one and love it.

I don't think there is a big enough difference between it and the Ex-30 to justify paying more than twice the price. But that's just me; an Ex-30 user might tell you the opposite.
