Hey eveyone, I just bought a RBI Hawk 220 it is not a variable speed as far as a dial goes however it does have several pulleys that can be adjusted to change the speed. The motor brand is a Fasco. In and earlier thread I read that I probably have a RBI Hawk 220 PRO. I'm having trouble getting the blade holders to hold a spiral blade and unfortunately I didn't get a manual with the saw. If anyone has a manual that they could send me it would be greatly appreciated. My email is up2it@comcast.net Thanks! |

up2it Congrats - Great buy!!! A little history about your saw first. It's not a Pro model, you have 220-2 speed or 220-3 speed model built in the mid to late 80s. To change speeds you change the belt to different pulley grove. If you have 220-3 speed model it uses two different size belts, Gates MM425 for fast speed and MM450 for slower speeds. Spiral Blades need to be flat for these holders, try hammering them a little. If the saw Knocks try more tension. Light tension on saw will yank the blade out of holder. Just a couple of questions. Are the blades slipping out or breaking in the holders? Do your blade holders have allen head screws or thumb screws? Are standard flat blades slipping out? Let me know and I'll see if I can help. Thank you for your reply. The information is helpful. After checking, the saw has 3 pulleys but only saw one belt. I have had both the blades slip out and break. The breaking was what I thought to be too much tension. The blade holders are the allen head screws that I would like to convert. Standard flat blade isn't slipping out it's jus the spiral blades that I appear to be having trouble with. I will try the suggestion of hammering them and see if that helps. Do you know anything about the Pozsgai'a Designs for changing the blade holders? I have read about these in other threads and was wondering if they would work on my saw. I am surprised with the age of this saw as it appears to be brand new. There only two little knicks in the paint of the stand and you really have to be looking for flaws to see them. Thank you a bunch for your help! |

I do know a little about Pozsgai's designs- The blade holder assembly he sells is for the Ultra 220, 226 and G426 models. Its a Delta upper blade holder adapted to a RBI upper blade holder bracket. I haven't seen a Hawk 3 speed model with a Delta holder retro. Your saw's upper blade holder is offset to one side the Delta is not, so blades will not travel vertically. You can upgrade your old holders to a thumb screw style, (no allen wrench need). I do at times have Hawk scroll saw parts for sale on ebey and do carry upper and lower thumb screw holders for your model. FYI- It sounds like your saw might have been sitting around for a while and not used. If it was my saw, I would use a drop or two of 3n1 oil on arm support bearings. Bearing that haven't been used for a long time will dry out just sitting. Think of trailer bearings they will do the same. You have a very good saw at a great price, there are 1,000s of 3 speed models still running today. Hope this info helps you!! Happy cutting!!! Thanks Steve |

Thanks again for your reply, information and advise. I will be oiling it up real good like you have suggested. What is your ebay ID so I can look for your auctions? I will be upgrading in the near future. Thanks again! |

Jim, "up2it,you can also contact me here at Hawk.Maybe we can help you with that issue..Jim" Does this mean we will be seeing Hawk saw's back on the market soon.? I am tired of being harassed by the "bottom feeding" Hegner guys in my club.

Sorry this is a bit off topic. No not at all. The Hegner is an excellent saw! Our club members (30) have an assortment of saws, so we constantly harass each other as to who’s saw is the best. Since the Hegners can only bottom feed and the Hawk G4 can easily feed the blade from either side. I call them bottom feeders and they call me a variety of things. ![]() Since I now use the top feed most of the time I would not own a saw that did not have that capability.
