Default coin jig

here is the pic of the coin jig i used for coin cutting. it's very similar to steve goods except i put all three size coins on one and i put bolts right in wood instead of having a seperate jig to hold it.

That's a good design Normded. Yesterday I started experimenting with a small block of wood with a slot in the side. A half moon shape is cut in the top and the coin is wedged in the slot with a thin wedge with a matching moonshape cutout. The coin both protrudes a ways out the side of the block and also allows cutting in the moon shaped cutout. It works pretty good and the advantage is, it is quick to make, (I used a bandsaw to cut the slot and scrollsaw for cutout) and needs only finger pressure to set or reset the coin and wedge. The disadvantage is you cannot see the whole coin at once.

What Mike you mean my word pictures don't do it for you? (grin)
Actually I built a jig this morning on the style of Normed's and I think I like being able to see the entire coin better. One change I did make was to make the larger holes in a strip of 1/8" plywood which I then aligned and glued to the underlying wood and the smaller holes prior to splitting of the jig. After thinking about this for a while I have decided that a 1/8" piece of polycarbonate would be even more durable. I am also thinking that the bolts and wing nuts could be eliminated by putting screws on the side of the jig and binding the two elements together with rubber bands. Just thinking out loud.

Norm & DW - Nice jigs. It doesn't really matter what they look like as long as they work! Evidently Norm your jig held the coins perfectly. You have a very nice display.
