Send me the bill. LOL

I owe you a cold one! Let me know when your near the East coast.

The table seems small. I was under the impression that they need to be 5'+ long.

Thank you I will put one together and see if it helps.

P.S. Love the downdraft table.

Thank you very much

Glad you liked it and nope just long enough so the wood extends past the infeed and outfeed. Give it a try you will like the results...

G'day Mike, Nice idea mate.
I made up a sled for planing short pieces of timber and stuff that's twisted.
Similar to yours, but it goes the other way up.
The stop is only about 10mm (3/8") thick and you sit your timber against the stop and feed the whole thing through the thicknesser.

I have 2. One is about 4' and the other is 8'. I use my planer like a jointer, to flatten boards that have minor twists. When doing this, ideally you want the length to be twice as long as the board you are milling. This allows the board to lay on a flat surface all the way from infeed through outfeed. I will tape shims to the underside of the board or hand plane it a little so it doesn't rock, then run it through the planer until the top side is flat, then flip it over to the other side. I don't have a jointer (buzzer, you Aussies crack me up) and this method works pretty well for me.

The other reason I like longer tables is that it helps when handling the material. I can run multiple short pieces through and they don't fall on the floor before I get around the outfeed side and catch them. And although I have a couple roller stands, I find that wrestling a lot of long boards in and out of the planer is pretty tiring, so using a long auxiliary infeed/outfeed table is easier for me.

My son-in-law took a portable and mounted it on the wall of his shop and he says it does a grate job. I have a Harbor Freight, yes you read right, and I have no complaints. I put a pleated top filter on it and it does a good job.
