King You have the same celling in your shop as I do. Yellow Cotton candy. I haven't had a problem with the arm staying up on my saw. But it is heavy. Might try your idea to help lift it up. Only I could never think of drilling a hole in my EXCALIBUR Owieeee!!!

| Senior Member | Pete, that hole is standard on the saw, and I assume it is for some sort of lockout feature to lock out the power switch, like in a classroom setting.

Hi King, Here is a picture of a lifting arrangement I built from 3/8" baltic birch(painted black), a geared hose clamp and a spring from a discarded adjustable lamp. The connecting holes on the arm, above the spring, and a short length of chain, below the spring, allow me to balance the arm perfectly. That is, it stays where I leave it and the saw does not make too much noise when the blade breaks. A bungee cord or counter wieght could be used to provide the lift in this arrangement as well. If anything bad happens with the spring (or bungee cord if used), it would be well away from my head. Steve Last edited by steveh; 07-03-2009 at 04:51 PM. Reason: Correct spelling error |
