In1995 I purchased a Dremel model 1671 Type 3 scroll saw. I used it for about 12 hours and did not use it until about a month ago. It did ok for about 15 hours and then it begin to give trouble. First it would not run on high speed but would run on low speed. After a short time it reversed and now runs ok on high speed but does not run on low speed. If I start on high speed then switch to low speed it will run for a few seconds and then just shut down. It acts af it it is overloaded. I contacted the service center and they suggested it might be the switchs . I checked them. They or ok. The only places to lubercate it is the four oil wells on the two arms. If any one has had this problem I would like to hear from you. Thanks veru much. Ray |

Welcome to the forum Ray........just a thought on your saw, did you check to see if you had any sawdust in the switch, or maybe an old spider web seeing it set unused for a while. Hope you get it fixed, and come by to show us some pictures of your projects. Good luck

Haven't had that specific problem Ray, but, I had my switch stop working because of dust in the switch. Sometimes it would start & other times it wouldn't. I solved that problem by plugging in a foot switch & leaving the on-off switch on all the time. It does sound like it is electrical though. Good Luck Perk

Thanks for the suggestion. I have checked the switch box. It is as clean as it can be. I was talking to my son who is pretty versed in things of this nature. He says it might be the the capacator on the motor. I called the service center today. This motor has been discontined but I was able to place an order for a new capactor. I will try this in a few days when my son comes down this way. At 88 years old I din't feel like doing a lot of lifting. Hope I can get it going. Again Thanks, Ray |

Ray, welcome to our group. I'm no spring chicken, myself (64). The way I move my saw is to remove the table first. In my shop, if it ain't on wheels or I can't take it apart, it stays right where it is. :-) Good luck with getting your saw running soon. I'm looking forward to seeing your work and hearing about your projects.
