Question Additional Blower

Has anybody ever added an additional dust blower like a fish tank air pump?

My Hitachi CW-40 is a great saw..however the slower the speed the less it blows air...finding myself out of breath by the time I finish a large cutting project.

Thanks
Rick

I didn't do that but I did buy another knuckled air hose, used part of it to lengthen the existing blower hose. This allowed me to better position the nozzle so at low speed it worked better. Pat

Rick, somewhere in my collection of scrollsaw mags, books, etc. there's an article on using one of those. Here's what I remember.

The pump itself is set close by but not on the scrollsaw bench. Seems it was to keep vibration to a minimum and may have been to keep the dust away from it too.

Run the airline from the pump to the arm of the saw. The picture of the one with the article had the air line attached to the upper arm with plastic wire zip ties.

Sorry I can't be more specific this morning - first cuppa coffee hasn't kicked in yet. :-) But, I do know it works. If I can find the writeup, I'll let you know who published it.

yes ive done this.
I have a Hitachi CW40 and I had the same problem. Its funny that I ran into your post, because I was Just telling another sawer about it on here. I purchased a fairly powerful pump at a yard sale, and used it with great results. But as lee said you cant mount the pump to your saw or to the stand, it does vibrate quite a bit.

When I first started scrolling, I had a low end saw with no blower. I hooked up an aquarium pump and it worked fine. I think it was attached to the stand but I could be wrong.

Trekinator

I was not happy with the blower on my new scroll saw. It was in the way and did not seem to blow enough nor could it reach where I wanted.

I took an old hood range fan [110v] with it's mounting sheet metal and added my own 7 inch diameter pipe as an independent blower away from my saw. Works fine. I used 2 feet of aluminum flashing wrapped and attached to the lip of the blower sheet metal for my pipe. My cost, 49 cents per foot, the rest of the material was from my squirrel collection.
