Default HELP! band saw blade

I didn't need this to happen!
the blade on my 10 inch band saw broke and the replacement blade from Sears won't cut a straight line when using the ripping fence......

the original blade was twice as thich as the replacement blade and I could get a nice straight cut when resawing wood so now I need to find a place where I can get a good 72 inch blade....FAST!

any help??????

Hi Trout,
I had good luck with this company and their blades.
Suffolk Machinery Corp. - Timber Wolf Band Saw Blades

Trout, while you're waiting for the blade, try this. Cut into a board, 3 or 4 inches. Far enough to determine the angle the blade is tracking. Then, set your ripping fence to that angle.

Or, using a straight edge, draw a line where you want the cut line to be. Then, cut it manually, just as you would on a scroll saw. You'll automatically adjust for the set of the teeth on the blade.

A FWIW --- For my old Dremel scrollsaw, I have a secondary table top with a slot & a mitre gauge, very similar to what's used on a regular table saw. And, it had a ripping fence. Ended up never using them, as it was easier to manually cut, than it was to make the adjustments to accomodate the drift of the blade.

Hope this helps, a bit, till you get the blade you want.

Default I am soooo SCREWED!

I'm cutting my train project out of a 3 X 6 inch block of black walnut and I can't even get 1/4 through it now without the blade binding up and that's just tring to follow a line...and I can't even stay on the line....

the blade that broke was the one that came with the saw new and it had gotten pretty dull and I've tried to put on a new blade a couple of times but I keep going back to the old blade just for this reason..

you know, most of the credit for the sucess to my trucks and tracktors projects goes to my band saw...and I was on a roll with the train...

Trout, sounds familiar to me. I had that problem with my table top band saw when the blade got dull. The real problem is, when it's cut, you can't go back !! You need a good blade in that saw. Don't want to waiste good wood. Good Luck

Default I'm back to cutting...

I put on a 1/8 inch scroll saw blade that I got a couple years ago, atleast it cut through my 3 inch block of wood but it still doesn't cut all that straight...
I'm going to call that place Mike mentioned to see if I can get a 1/4 or 3/8 x 70 1/2 inch blade from them...
when your making identical parts it sure is a lot easier to make one and then rip it in half.....

Suffolk tool has probably the best and most knowledgable staff you'll probably ever deal with. Tell them what you plan to do with the blade and they'll sell just what you need. Most of the time they run a buy three and get the fourth one free deal for first time buyers. They always ship Priority Mail too. Pat

I will also vouch for the quality of their blades.
Is your saw a 2 wheel or 3? I had a 3 wheel and couldn't use a .025 thick blade because the radius of the wheels was too small and the weld kept breaking.
