That's akin to asking what's better, Ford or Chevy. The best scrollsaw is one that gets used a lot. A lot of folks love their Dewalts, Excalibur EX-21's, Dremels etc. I was very happy with my Dremel and Craftsman saws and now use an EX-30. They all did the job, I just like the purple color of my EX the best, hehehehe.

Kev, part of the answer to that question is how do you plan to use the saw? Just as a casual, once in a while use, or a full-fledged production shop for selling goods, or somewhere in the middle. Personally, I like the DeWalt as it suits my "in the middle" situation. I like the upfront controls, ease of blade change, cutting depth for large pieces, etc. If I decide to cut for sale, it will serve well, until the actual need arises for a high end saw. Just my 2-cents on the subject of saws.

Times must be changing. I AGREE with Jedi........ maybe it is the heat. You did not say where you are. but cragslist seems to have some good deals (no. keep it about sawing and not the other stuff that gets offered there). I have seen a few Dewalts for around 250.. Before buying used.. check the saw out.... take a board and a blade. there seems to be more saws getting sold than when I was looking...... just an opinion , Like Noses.. we all have one.

Jediscroller JUST ABOUT hit the nail on the head............. He said " The best scrollsaw is one that gets used a lot." What it should have said was "The best scrollsaw is one gets used a lot, never breaks down, was affordable (everyones budget is different), and gives the operator great pleasure everytime its used!

The one I learned on is a Black and Decker BT4000. Big working platform, with blower. And it has survived being knocked around a lot without any scars. But then again, I haven't used any other one.
