Sometimes a triangular file will work to cut those first few "boogers" out of the way and you'll get back to business. You don't have to be too aggressive--just patient.

And besides, the worst that could happen is you still have to replace the fitting.

Check out local pawn shops...who knows maybe you could find just what you need by buying the whole thing cheap?

The part Chase appears to need is the armature & bearing (threads attached to front of assembly). The whole shebang costs around $25. That's a lot cheaper than buying a new one. Of course, if Chase does have a local pawn shop nearby, maybe just maybe, they have what he is looking for.

Many, many thanks for all the suggestions. My buddie and neighbor, a machinist for over 50 years, took the tool, got out his needle files, put on his 7x magnifier, and started filing new threads. Took him all of 3 minutes. Tool now threads and works perfect.

His name is Talbert. Thanks Talbert. Thanks to all who responded. Many good ideas.

Is this a great forum or what?

Chase
