I honestly can't afford a Plunge Router, and a Router table for a while. Been out of work 7 months, with no unemployment. I do have a Dremel tool, and saw their plunge attatchment, and table set-up. I would use it for minor round-over, and key-holeing frames, and small shelves. Does anyone use either of these set-ups? Work well enough to use 'til I can get a Router? Thanks! Paul

I've just started setting up mine (plunge version). Even though I have a couple of big routers, they're just too heavy to do light, delicate work. Have had the fixed base Dremel version for a number of years. It works well for small work. Just take your time. Depending on what you're doing you may have to make several passes, cutting a little deeper, each time. (No different from big routers.) Make your own table. Do a search on the net for Dremel Router Table Plans. There are several, easy to make, versions. I need to look up the one I have for a table that mounts in a Workmate. If it came from an on-line source, I'll post the link. In the meantime, a search may turn up one that suits your needs.

I don't have the router attachment but I do use the drill press attachment all the time and the flex shaft. I really use mine alot!

I have the Dremel tool plunge router, work station and router table. The plunge router attachment is the most used piece, since I use it to drill my interior fretwork holes. While the work station/drill press is handy, you are limited tio the size of wood that will fit on the table. With the plunge attachment you simply move it to where you want to drill. The router table is also very handy for round overs since, as Lee NC said, a regular router is much too big for the usual scroll saw work Just my 2-cents worth. Jack |

Here's the link to a homemade router table. It isn't the one that'll fit in a WorkMate. However, it can be modified to fit it or to mount in a bench vice. Mini Router Table Hope this helps.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the help and advice! Lee, I checked that link out. Wow! I can do that! That is so cool! I'll be building that table early this week. Never would have thought of making my own table! Paul

Paul I use the Dremel router attachment and table all the time for rounding over small stuff. It is the only one my hubby is happy for me to use without him around! The only problem is that the little router bits require fairly frequent sharpening, but that is not too problematic. Good luck on the making of your table and don't forget to show us! Sue |

Paul, I also have the plunge router attachment and use it for small router work and the plunge function for drilling holes for portrait type work. Lee, thanks for the link, I will make one of those. Last edited by Haggard3230; 05-19-2009 at 02:43 AM. |
