Default magnifying goggles

Does or has anyone ever used those magnifying goggles when scrolling. I have gone through 2 magnifying lamps. the light switches keep going out. I saw some on one of the sites and was just curious. Richard aka thumbs

I have some of them and I don't use them. I tried them but I can't see as well with them as I can with my magnifying glass and light. It may have a lot to do with my eye strength. I normally wear glasses anyway. Actually they get in my way a little bit. They may serve you better than me. All I can say is give them a try and see how they work out for you. Good luck, David

I'd think that magnifying goggles would be hard on the eyes. I have to use reading glasses so goggles are not an option for me.

Richard, I haven't used those goggles, so I can't comment.

Some of those lamps can be re-wired to by-pass the switch. Just put on a new lamp cord and plug it into a power strip. So, if you've ever rewired a regular lamp, you probably already have the know-how. If you're not sure, an electrician friend can probably do it for you for an invite to your next cookout.

Another option is to take out the switch and go to Radio Shack and see if they can match up an equivalent. Again, shouldn't cost very much, maybe a couple of bucks.

Hate to see a good lamp go into the trash because of a bad switch....

Just 2-cents, this morn.

Where's the switch located, maybe got full of sawdust? My opinion those head mags are the pitts.

The Optivisor is a good handsfree magnifing device check out this website.
Donegan Optical Company Home Page

I work at a vision rehab center and this is the device issued for hands free work. It takes some getting use to but it works and is optically sound. I use one for my scrolling detail work all the time.

Thanks for the replies-- I haven't thought of Radio Shack and a new switch. I tried to hot wire it but could get the florescent bulb to start---I'll try RS and see what they can do--Richard aka thumbs

I think Pete above has it right. Why not just use reading glasses? I get them at the dollar stores and have many pair. For normal reading, I use 1.75's or 2.0's. For cutting puzzle pieces, or any scroll saw work, I use 2.5's or 3.0's. They're cheap, easy to use and work great! Even for those whose vision is perfect, I say get some 1.25's and see better.

I used to use them all the time. The problem is that for the magnification I was using they had a very narrow focal range and I got major neck cramps. It was also a pain switching between my glasses and the magnifiers.

The solution is a GOOD quality magnifier ring lamp, it allows me to sit naturally and keep my glasses on.
I have picked up a couple at yard sales and I have a real old one that I repaired. Originaly in the $100 plus range. Good quality 5" lenses. I bought a cheap one that gave me about a 1" field of view, that has been recycled.

I agree with carter...I go to the dollar store and get reading glasses. I have a lighted magnifier but can't get the hang of using it as the view outside the field of magnification confuses my eyes. I know that does not make a lot of sense. Items not under the magnifier seem to confuse my vision.
