Bob, here's a way to make your 3-legged stand mobile without adding so much height. G7314 Heavy-Duty Mobile Base In your situation, you'd put a piece of 3/4" ply in the base. If the saw stand has provision for bolting it down, bolt it to the ply. Look carefully and you'll see the machine sits inside the base, thus reducing the height required. Since the base is adjustable, your footprint will be no larger than necessary to fit your saw stand. FWIW, I have this mobile base under my cabinet saw. It works well, and the saw is easy to move, when needed. I also have some of the less expensive Delta Universal bases and don't like them. If I had a do-over, all my bases would be the Shop Fox version. When I've used furniture dollies and homemade versions, they tend to be less stable in that I have more vibration problems. One example was a table top drill press sitting on a cabinet on a ply base with casters. By the time you buy good quality locking casters, ply and lumber to make a mobile base, you're gone a long ways towards a Shop Fox base. Hope this helps. Let us know what you decide and do show us some of your work.

If you dont have a use for the 3 legged stand, I know of someone that would use it. I personally love the Dewalt stand that comes with the saw. Its the older 4 legged version of their stand that wasnt worth a crap. I find it plenty stable for sawing, and I do believe it would be easy to attach a couple locking casters to it so you can move it if needed.
