I am still getting alot of project chatter (moving up and down) even if I apply pressure constantly (its hard to do with little pieces). Would the blade being out of square (up/down or front to back make this happen? I am using mikes Excellent Blades so I know it's not because of cheap blades. I don't have the pin type blades so I have to put them in the holder manually...not sure if top is in same spot as bottom or if that is the problem. I have tried different speeds and different wood, and it all chatters. Any suggestions????? Thanks Rick

Not trying to be a smart a$$ but have you checked to see if the blade is in upside down? When you run the blade up and down on your thumbnail you can tell the direction of the teeth. They should be facing DOWN.

Rick Hutcheson's web site has a whole lot of video's on scroll sawing. On his video page, way, way down near the bottom is a video on making a "zero clearance insert" very easy and cheap. Try his tip just as a test to see if the chatter goes away. If that helps, there are other methods, mostly much more expensive or time consuming, for a smaller (narrower?) table insert opening. But right now (current economic crisis), a stiff business card is easy to come by. Phil PS: Rick's site: Rick's Scrollsaw Last edited by GrayBeard Phil; 03-19-2009 at 11:49 AM. Rick, when I have chatter, it is normally . I am not holding the wood down . but you say you are. and mostly , the wood is warped just enough to make it hard to hold down. but you say you use different wood. and then there is the tension. maybe the blade is just loos, and not cutting straight. and the pushing thing with a loos blade. be sure also that your blades are in the clamps right. maybe the blade is not straight. even if your table is. that would make the blade bend just enough to make a bouncing motion. but mostly. warped wood. you might try holding the wood down tighter. also. the wrong size blade. if the blade is to big for the project. it can pull your wood up and down. slamming it on your fingures. also , when you add hold down pressure. are you close to the blade?? or are your hands flat, and holding away from the blade. I like to put my hold down hand very close to the blade. and not the whole hand. only a fingure of two. pivoting around it. but close to the blade. remember. the blade only goes up and down. and only cuts from the front. so you can hold very close to the back of the blade. your friend Evie
