Hi, I'm new to carving and want to get cheap carving stock. In paticular I would like basswood, and white pine. Does anyone know where I can get them green? I want to get them as cheap as I can like from a sawmill that sells green basswood, and or white pine. I dont't care if they are in logs with all the bark on however I can get the wood cheapest. Please help, thanks! ??? |

I'm also a newbie and there are probably others who can give a lot more advice but I had luck with the yellow pages. I found a place called Northend Hardwoods here in Vermont where I can get roughcut Basswood up to 6 inches thick. I also got some on Ebay but that seems to be very hit or miss. mikeg

Not to sure about ebay basswood, the stuff I got was southern basswood and wasn't any good!...Try Don Wedll, he has basswood, diamond willow or about anything else you want and his prices are very good! try http://members.tripod.com/~woodsource/index.html send him an email through his site.....tell him Dave Dunlap told you about him.... |

Thanks for the info. I didn't think of that... But if anyone knows where I can get cheap green basswood, and or white pine it would be greatly appreatated. Also if it is in PA or close to PA that would be perfect. Thank you

Check your yellow pages for sawmills or pallet companies. I get basswood cut-offs free from a local pallet maker. These are 6X4X24 chunks from the cants that they cut stringers from.
