Default Saw Dust Collection

Hi Everyone, I could use your help and input. I am looking for some type of small saw dust collector. I have seen the ones that you can put on top of a trash can but can not find them anywhere. I need some sort of cheap collector that I can attach to the new band saw. It has 2 4" ports on it and I will be making a lot of saw dust when I am re-sawing. Anyone with any info on this please let me know. . Steve

Steve,

I use a shop vac on my 16 inch bandsaw with good results. The Bandsaw doesn't produce enough sawdust to require the trashcan separator.

I think what you saw on the garbage can was a dust separator. The one that is sold by Grizzly at this location. G3376 30 Gallon Dust Collection 2 Stage Cyclone Separator - but that is not the vacuum system but just separates more sawdust so you have less in the vacuum. I have one and love it. Then again maybe this is not what you were thinking of?? (If it is I think Harbor Freight has them cheaper.)

The one that they had down at the plant where I used to work was a small dust collector that sat right on top of the trash can and separated the larger pieces into the can and filtered the smaller dust into a bag. I am going to see if I can get someone to get some info off of it for me. It is possible that it was something that was modified to fit but certainly looked like a factory unit. Thanks for all of your responses. Steve

Steve - I agree with Fred's idea. I also have a shop vac hooked up to my bandsaw. I wired the shop vac to the bandsaw switch. Turn on the bandsaw and the vac goes on automatically. Just my thoughts.

Shop Vacs here too they are about the most convenient way to go and if you watch the sales you can pick them up fairly cheaply.
