You probably do, considering the number of brand names that Black and Decker own. * DeWalt Power Tools * Porter Cable * Delta Machinery * Kwikset * Baldwin * Weiser Lock * Price Pfister * Emhart Teknologies * Oldham Blades * Black and Decker Firestorm Dewalt was acquired in 1960 For more info look HERE

The great tool consolidation a few years ago between B&D (Dewalt) and Pentair (Porter-Cable/Delta) was a disappointment to me. I think customers lose when competitors merge. Unfortunately I don't think we've seen the last of it. In the end, most major tool brands will be owned by a couple global conglomerates who share production in the same Asian factories. Variety and innovation will suffer as these companies gravitate to the lowest bottom line. It's almost to that point now. Woodworking is my only real hobby, so I have no idea if other industries are going through the same thing or not. It's just troubling to me to watch these trends.

Whirlpool, Kitchenaid, Inqlis, Maytag, Amana are all under one roof now. The second one is GE who makes GE, Moffat, Kenmore and most of the store brands. The next ones have to be Ford, GM and Chrysler. But their ego will be too big and will prefer to go bankrupt rather than go under Toyota's roof. |

It saddens me to see companies and businesses gobbled up by others. It will happen more and more in the current economic climate, as share prices fall, bigger Corporations with cash and assets will snap up smaller ones. This not good for our system of economics, as it is based on competition, not only price, but quality and service as well. As competition is destroyed, so is the need for the striving to produce the best at the best price and with the best service. Oh well, brighter people than me make these laws and decisions so they must know what they are doing. Off the soap box.
