Default PS Wood Machines

I have the opportunity to purchase a PS Wood Machines scroll saw for $300. How good of a saw is this? How does it compare to, for example, the DeWalt that is so popular around here?

Hi Porter,

Welcome to the forum. I own a DeWalt 788 and never had a PS Wood Machine, so I can't answer your question. Hopefully smeone will come up with an answer. This reply should move the question up to the top of the list.

I used one that was being demonstrated at a show. It is belt driven (no variable speed)
I thought that the front to back blade motion was very agressive.
It was not a saw for me, but I had my G4 for a few years already so I am a bit picky now.

The ones they sell now are variable speed with different sizes of pulleys. The smaller one has 3 speeds, and the larger one (the one I'm looking at) has 5 speeds.

It sounds like the one you tried was a different saw than what I'm looking at.

The one I saw was a 3 speed. Which in reality is probably sufficient for most work.
But the blade motion is what put me off, it was too much like my Delta SS350 (a great starter saw)
I hope to get another opportunity to try one of the new ones. I probably would not have bought my Hawk G4 if the only one I had tried was an older model. The G4 was a great upgrade.

That said I think it is dangerous to base a new saw decision on experiences with old ones.
It is a shame that there is no one location where we can try all models from all manufacturers. Oh we could all go to Rick’s house.
