Default disc sander ?

I am about to buy a 12 inch disc sander.Purpose...mainly to touch up miters and square up cuts that are fractions of a degree off.For that application, what grit would I get the biggest benefit of using on it.It will be PSA discs, and I dont want to change grits any more than I have to.I am thinking 100 or 150 grit, sound reasonable?
Currently considering the Shop Fox 12 inch disc sander. My first choice would be the Jet, but its about 3 1/2 times the $$$$'s. Any certain brand, model you would recommend I consider in addition to the ShopFox 1708 ? Thanks

I use my benchtop belt sander to clean/square edges, apply angles (for roofs, for example), and remove material when necessary. For this, I've got a 180 belt on the thing and, personally, don't think I'd go lower than that. 180 may sound high, but the thing moves at such a high rate that anything more aggressive would remove material at a rate much higher than I want.

Although I've never had a Jet or ShopFox sander, I have had other tools from both of these manufacturers and think they both make good stuff. I'm sure you'll be pleased with whichever you get.

I'm with unix, I use 180 grit anything else is too aggressive. Mine is just the I think it is 5" Delta with a 1" belt on it as well. Haven't had any experience on the two mentioned.

I prefer my rigid oscillating sander.

Dale,
I keep an 80 grit disk on mine for that same type of work. I wouldn't go any higher than 100 (it will load up fast and you'll run the risk of burnishing it if you're not careful).

I don't worry about loading up my sandpaper, as I keep a sandpaper cleaning stick around. It works very well. It's kind of like a very big eraser.

I use 120 grit on my cheap Delta 6" disc/24" belt sanding dohickey thingambob.

Watch eBay as those Jet's show up REAL cheap occasionally. I think they are factory returns due to damage in shipping....usually missing a foot or something minor.........

Or check a pawn shop.
