Default FD UR blade ?

NO blade wars please. Just an observation.

A note and a question about the FD UR blades. For our annual Woodworking show Mike at FD very generously provided our club with a gift certificate for some blades, I was lucky enough to end up with it.
Mike sent me a dozen each of the FD UR 1,3,and 5. I really like the way they cut with one exception they make my pattern fuzz up. By that I mean they pull up a bit of the pattern (a fuzzy line) that hides the adjoining line when doing small pieces where the lines are close together.
I think it is because there are reverse teeth on the full length of the blade.

Other than that it is a very controlable and fast cutting blade AND I love the fact that the top of the blade is marked, what a time saver.

Rolf -

I bought some FD-UR's from Mikes Workshop a while back - I just love them. I don't do much small work anymore - I cut mostly 1'/2" wood and I use 5' and 7's.

I also grabbed a few smaller ones and tried them on BB portraits - I found them to be too agressive and was having trouble with the smaller cuts and tighter radiuses - so I wend back to #2 skip tooth for BB portraits.

Just my 2 cents

George

You are right Rolf, I have noticed the same thing. I have gone back to FD-SR blades for small work. On the other hand the FD-UR work great in other applications, I use FD blades on all my work, just different types of blades for different types of work.

I had not noticed that on the work I do but I love the way they cut.

I use them for most of my work, except very fine work, if they come out with a 2/0 will use them. I love they way they stay on a line. I haven't noticed what you have Rolf but I don't cut a lot. Need to glue up a stack and cut today (if it warms up) Will let you know what happens.

I noticed the same thing. It generally doesn't affect being able to follow the pattern. They are more aggressive than the traditional reverse-tooth. I use them mostly on thicker stock or when stack cutting when I don't have fragile pieces. They cut almost as straight as Olsen's PGT blades.

Like the others, I've noticed it too. Personally, I like the way the UR tracks so much better than the SR that I can overlook the fuzz.

"I think it is because there are reverse teeth on the full length of the blade".

Rolf, if there are reverse teeth on the full length of the blade you have the blade in upside down. Or else I misunderstand your statement.
