I have been looking at just about every contractor's and portable table saw I can find. I really like some of the contractor's saws in my price range of 800.00 dollars or less. When I looked at some of the saws today I realized that if I put one in the garage the wife's car would have to live outside. Then I would have to live outside and that would not be pretty. So with my limited and I do mean limited I am leaning very heavily toward the Dewalt 744x. Yes, I do see a need for cutting strips of plywood. I also need an accurate fence and miter gauges. I have looked at Bosch and Jet and Saw Stop (to big) anything over a hundred pounds will be more massive than I can keep in a garage/garden shed/buld storage/auto part and woodshop. Any ideas or suggestions on which portable table saw is best for small wood working projects? |

Not sure if you are a Craftsman fan or not but they do have a few portable saws. Dean |

If it's for casual use, get one of the folding stand contractors saws. I have one (a Ryobi) and haven't had any problems. I fold it up and lean it against the wall when I'm not using it.

dewalt makes a very good t.s. and extension tables can be made for it. i have a delta 10" contractors saw i got on clearance 2 yrs ago and love it. although i dont have to move it outta the way for a car, i do have to move it to cut sheet goods. i bought one of those tool movin wheel set-ups( cant remember the proper name of them) and they work good for moving it, and work for other machinery, too. the fence that came with it is good and see no reason to upgrade. one thing i would highly suggest is whatever saw you look at, see what the trunions are made of. some use aluminum for this very important part. cast trunions will last a long time. from what i hear, bosch makes a pretty good portable saw, too. jet is a good saw, but over priced for what it is. the saw stop is a very ingenious invention. the problem is that when the stop is activated, the blade is usually destroyed. i am on another forum and a LOT of the folks that chimed in aboput the saw stop stated that all of their accidents are from human error, so being more careful and realizing how dangerous the tool being used can be, being more aware while using the tool, and using the tool properly seems to be the solution. good luck on your decision and we'll be lookin for your pick!!

Well, I finally broke into the bank and purchased a Ridgid contractors table saw and band saw. Haven't quite finished putting the table saw together yet and the band saw is still in the box. Plan to spend the next three or four days setting up in my garage and getting it organized so there's room to change my mind. On Wed. Dec 10th around 5 am my son William Zachery was born. Mother and the baby are doing just fine. Arthur |

Sorry pintail for being late and congrats on your new toy , the only thing that I wish I could have told you earlyier was that I have learned the hard way . I would not but another major tool that has a lot of plastic on it or made of it mostly , had to replace a table saw that got a crack in the wrong spot , and I have a small jointer that I hope want get a crack in it next . I've had it with these plastic tools , for if you use them a lot it seems that they just want last . Good Luck Marshall
