Wondering if anyone has tried the stainless steel sanding disc from Microplane.

yes. they work like advertised. they are good for flattening a piece of wood and will tear it down level pretty quick. doesnt leave a surface ready for finish. i tried them ot but personally reather spend my money on regular hook and loop in different grits. they work good iffen ya dont have a jointer or planer. but like i said, they do what they advertise. thats just my opinion tho.

Never heard of this. So I google and it looks like a cheese grater for wood. Interesting.

I'm the opposite...I LOVE mine. I've worn out the velcro on mine.

The 80 grit will REMOVE WOOD. The medium grit removes the scratches from the 80-grit, and, as long as your sander pad is flat (not warped), I can get a good finish from the fine grit. If there are any scratches left, I hit it lightly with 220 grit sandpaper, and it's good to go.

So much so that they have a line of kitchen graters based on their wood rasps.

Very good stuff. My wife won't let me claim the kitchen microplane for the shop though.

And I'm not discussing why she won't let me use it on cheese anymore

Thanks for the input. I cut a few pieces from an Ironwood log with a chainsaw which left it pretty rough. I tried some 60 grit paper and a belt sander, this stuff is tough. Thought these might work better.

Evie, there is 40, 80 & 120 grits. You can also get an assorted pack 1 of each.

Hi gippslander,

That's a different beast

We've been talking about the sanding discs. Your photo is of the rotary shaper.
Or I'm confused (which has been known to happen)

This one: The Hardware Aisle: Microplane sands, sans paper
What you have: Microplane Woodworking - Rotary Shaper

Oddly, the sanding disks aren't showing up for me on microplane's website.
