Default Dewalt & Sears Owners

Hello; Looking for an opinion...

1- I have a Dewalt type 1 with a bad motor,
replacement cost = $208.79.

What would you do?
I've had the saw since 1997.

2- Sears model # 21609 18" is on sale for $199.00
It does sound good...
don't know how it works?

Thanks for any thoughts...
Bob.

If you liked the Dewalt, you probably will not enjoy one of the cheapy saws. If nothing else is wrong with your Dewalt I would fix it. My Dewalt got sloppy after several thousand hours and I just replaced it with another one. The old one now is used for cutting metal.

I have the 788 and would replace the motor. Can you have the motor repaired locally? Might be less expensive. Just a thought.

There was a post a while back about getting a saw rebuilt at the factory repair place. They guarenteed the price would not go over a set amount. I don't remember if it was for Dewalt, but I think it was.

DEWALT Service

Here is the link for Dewalt. They use "service net" for repair parts and you have to register but you may find a replacement motor reasonably priced.

They also have a link to locate their authorized repair sites.

its actually a combination of the increased group size, along with the way we have been accustomed to posting, trying to search by key words here can be hard at times, and give you about 2 batrillion and three posts to scour through, but the info is all here, just a matter of finding it!

First you need to know I am not mechanically inclined.

Are you sure it is the motor.. It is very common for the switch to go out.

I found an old can of TV tuner cleaner and sprayed mine and got it working, then moved to a foot switch.

as far as motors go.. that is way out of my league. but I would fix it vs the sears.
