Default JET spindle sander

I just got the JET bench top spindle sander. I had never used one before and I go this one on a good deal. When using the large spindle I get a noise as it goes up and down. I have made sure everything is tight but I still get it. It may be normal but I don't know. There is no vibration and the noise seems to come and go a little but mostly there all the time. What is it if you know or is it normal?

I had the same problem with mine. The first "big" (one you have to buy separately) drum - I returned. It seemed to be out of balance to me. 2nd one was better but still vibrated a lot. I also get a weird noise from time to time on any of them. Not sure if it's normal or not - I suspect not.

Question Spindle Sander noise !!!!

I've never owned one of these spindle sanders yet , but in some videos that I have viewed > other spindle sanders had made some sort if noises or vibrations in the videos . I have been thinking about asking the wife for one for Christmas , that is if I've been good enought . I sure hope someone comes on this post and can shed some light on this post for you bigbellybuys and Janette , for I would like to know if its normal for it to make these sounds or have these vibrations ?????????? I played around tonight with tightening it and adjusting the nut on top and everything but nothing worked. I took out the spindle all together and I still got a noise. It is like when it is moving up and down when it gets to the full up position it makes a groaning noise. It works fine but I hate things that make noise they are not suppose to.

I went to my local Jet supplier and they hooked up there display model and it makes the same noise so it must be OK. It is under warranty and we have an authorized repair place in town so I will keep my eye on it.

I have it also, there seems to be a certain resonance as the spindle moves up and down.
I suspect that is normal. I have not had mine apart so I am not sure where the noise is generated. But I am not concerned as nothing is loose and it runs fine. It is a wonderful tool and as stated before I am glad I listened to Jeff when I was trying to make up my mind.
