Default Mold on tools ?

My workshop is in the basement ( I run a dehumidifier full time) I have been noticing that some of my tool platforms, especially the ones made of particle board are growing a green mold. I have tried sealing them with shellac and that didn't help much.
Anybody else have this problem?

Rolf, I had a similar problem with some bb plywood, I ended up using a damp sponge with a 4 to1 mixture of bleach. Had to blow dry the pieces quickly but no mold has yet returned. I know particle board and moisture don't do well together but if you have already applied shellac it may work for you.

Rolf,

You might try KILZ. It's a primer you can get at Home Depot. It's used to prime surfaces to stop moisture penetration that will cause mold. I would try the bleach to kill the mold, dry the wood and then use KILZ...That might work, just a suggestion...Good Luck

A majority of my wood and tools are in the basement. Although its a bit damp, I havent had this trouble at all.I do know if I dont wax my cast tables once in a while they will start to rust, but Ive never had any problem with my wood. One tool that may help in combination with the dehumidifier is a fan. Anything to keep the air circulationg some will help.

G'day Rolf,
I was Gonna be a smart A** and say "It's because they are not used enough" but seeing as it's the cabinets I will retract that statement that I never uttered.

I can't offer any suggestions except for the bleach trick, damp is the least of our worries in Kal.
