| Would you Buy a 10 year old Hegner Multimax 18 for $500?
According to the owner his wife used it for about 3 hours and it has just
been sitting there since 1998. I am somewhat concerned by the age but the photos look good.
Should I offer him less? Any opinions?

| Missy, I would offer him $300.00, but I think I would still buy it. these machines are great. I think mine is a 2000 gosh not sure. but I would buy it in a hart beat. but yes offer less always. I have seen them go on ebay for $300.00. so offer that. also, is there any rust. the table should be good, mine is aluminum. sorry can't spell. and that don't rust. but not sure about the other parts. how was it kept? and the motor. how does it work. does it make noise? do the arms work nice, and free. and the dust blower, does it still work, maybe the hose is dryed up from storage, but that can be replaced. does it have variable speed, and a light, or and a foot switch? this all come into play. it does take straight blades right. I would think so. does it come with a quick release and a thum screw to releas the blades. I only mention this stuff so you can have it to dill with. also, does it come with a stand, standing or sitting? as far as I know, the Multimax 18 does come with most this stuff. but just make sure ok also. check the tentioning spring and screw. your friend Evie

| I would suggest going there, and giving the saw a try! As for me, no, I wouldnt pay that much for it, but, its not because its a bad saw, I just am not crazy about the Hegners. The Hegners are a high quality saw, and have always been regarded as top quality, so, it very well may be worth that, but I would tend to spend that amount on a brand new saw with a warranty just for peace of mind. And as for if you should offer them less..... of course! It never hurts to offer them less, all they can do is say no, or make you a counter offer.

| I had a friend with the same saw about the same age and the same price. It had been used about 10 hours total and he wanted to sell it. After trying it for a week, I gladly gave him his asking price and have not been disappointed. I would say it is a good deal but if the person selling it will take less, that's even better!!

| I agree with Lucky788 , a warranty means something when it come to a saw. Good luck in either way you go. Marshall ![051[1]433](http://www.scrollsawer.com/forum/images/smilies/051[1]433.gif)

| I do not use Hegners but many of our top scrollers in our club do. It is a good saw but I think that here have been some improvements in the blade tensioning and clamping bits in the last few years. So I would compare it to pictures of the new ones or atleast get some claification from the seller.
A new one is over $1000 so the price sounds good to me.
