| What blades are you using now?
Must say, I try sticking with Flying Dutchman. Seems every time I buy Olson I'm just not very happy with the performance.

| Well I started out with scroll america. I really liked them. then olsen. and then FD. I have never tryed the pegus. has any one else tryed these. I like most of them. and love some of them. but one desn't do all the work I wont. so just looking.if I could find a blade to do a tracking like scroll amearica, and the sharpness of Flying Duchmon, and the thickness of Olson. I would be a happy scroller. seams like the scroll America is very sharp and thick, but dulls fast. the Flying Duchmon is sharp as heck, but bends, and doesn't follow the line well. seams to go off cours to fast on hard woods, unless I tighten the tention down very tight. which hurts my saw, and the Olson is very thick, and dulls fast, but easy for learning, doesn't break so easy. I haven't tried the pegus yet. how do they work? just looking thanks . your friend Evie |

| Evie,
I am an equal oportunity blade buyer, so I have some of everybodys.
I still feel that blade preference comes down to what you get comfotable with. With any blade that I use I learn to compensate for wandering etc. ( the only one I never mastered was the FD 2/0)
For all of my fine fret work I use the Olson 2 and 2/0
For not so critical larger features Ilike the Olson Mach series #3 and FD 3 and 5 (I am not yet sure about the Ultra reverse, have to try them again)
For Spiral work I like the "new Spiral series from FD.
for laminates (plastic)the polar series.
I also like several of the Pegas blades.
The bottom line, once I am comfortable with a blade I stick with it because I only have to think about the pattern and not about what the blade will do.

Great answer with solid reasoning to back up the opinions. Now for another question--
Is there a difference in the Olsons you get from the hardware store and the mail order (like from Sloans)?
At present, I am cutting with a variety of manufacturers, but am weaning all the blades I don't care for and replacing with blades that seem to do a good job for me. I have placed a couple of small orders with Mike and am very happy with the service and the blades--so far.
I tried some Pegas blades very early in my learning process and maybe they were just to much blade for me to handle on a single speed Delta, but I really have the experience I think I should have, considering they were touted as a "premium" blade.

| Blades {Mike"s workshop } Evie: I"ll join in with the rest on Mike"s Workshop, I have not tryed Mike"s Flying Dutchman Blades yet . But He did send me some to try, and anyone that would do that kind of business probably knows what his product is. And when it starts to cool a bit I'm going to try them out, and if their what people say they are then he"ll get all my business. I"ve always used Olson blades and broke several and it seems that they loose the cutting edge real fast. I have went though a lot of blades in the last ten years. | Evie,
I had zero luck with the Pegas blades though there are a couple of folks that I know that really like them. I tried using them for cutting thick woods and just couldn't get them to last more than 5 minutes without breaking (I gave up after 2 dozen). I pretty much exclusively use FD's (SR's and UR's) now myself. I've never had a problem with them bending but I did have trouble following a line with the TC's.
