Scrollers, I picked up a used oscillating spindle/belt sander over the weekend that has a 2½" dust port built into it. I'd like to be able to hook up my dust collector to it. The question is – would it be more efficient to run a 2½" hose to the DC and then open up to 4" with an adapter to attach to the DC (higher velocity/lower volume), or would it be better to put an adapter on (or close to) the machine port and run 4" to the DC (higher volume/lower velocity)? TIA for the help.

4" all the way to the machine. Dust collectors work on volume of air moved so any reduction in size as well as sharp bends will affect performance. I have just set up a desk for sanding and carving. I have a 4" pipe to the side of the desk. I added a 2" short piece on it that I can move around as needed. I went back to the 4" and even put a 4x10 funnel on the end. Alan. |

Stay 4" as much as you can. I am using a 21/2"extension on my DC and find a loss of suction. Am going to rig up 4" dryer vent ducting. Dean |
