G'day Alan, This is my spray set up. The Gun closest to the camera is for Primer/undercoat. The touch up guns are for colour and the gravity feed LPHV is for lacquer. The bench in the booth has a turntable mounted on it.

Thanks for the pics John, I have been playing with different brushes and oil base paints. Am ready to hit myself over the head with a big hammer so I do not get the idea of doing more projects that need painting. Will have to chew off my fingers first in case I change my mind. Just getting frustrated I have so much time on this project. Am going to an art gallery paint store today and see if I can get some better brushes that don't leave hairs all over the place. Alan. |

Thankyou The fan is an exhaust fan 10". It's just a cheapy kitchen type. I replace it every three or so years, when it stops or starts making funny noises They're only about $15.00 on special. When the grill gets a build up of overspray I just give it a blast with an air nozzle and that cleans it. The light doesn't get bugger all over spray on it, because the fan tends to draw it away from the light.

For curious minds ![]() The bench in the booth just sits on a couple of timber cleats with locating dowells, so it can be lifted out of the way for spraying free standing stuff. The right wall, is hinged to the shed wall, and hinged in centre making it a bi-fold. It has a 3" caster under the front edge. The idea was to lift the bench of and fold it back against the shed wall, but I find I use the booth on such a regular basis it probably hasn't been folded out of the way more than a dozen times and that would have been in the first 6 months of building it. The turn table is just a disk of Chip board, with 4 @ 1 1/2" caster fitted under it, A bolt fitted in the centre, which protrudes down into a hole drilled in the middle of the bench.

So if it is just a kitchen fan it is not an explosion proof fan. Spraying lacquer I think you are asking for trouble. I guess it works good until it explodes. I would do some web searching on spraying lacquers and exhaust fan specifications and codes. The rest of the booth I like the setup. |

I am going to build a spray booth, the question is about venting it. Would using a Heppa filter blowing filtered air into the box( a big box) and then just a vent going outside work? Try as I might I still get sawdust all over and am thinking that an extraction fan would just pull that dust into the spray booth. Alan. |

I bought a spray gun at home depot to try on the saddle rack I made. Learned 2 things. #1 dilute paint, #2 make a spray booth stupid!!! Just gave it a quick spray on cardboard and could not beleve the cloud of paint. I had put a fan under the overhead door that I opened a foot. Sprayed close to the fan but it did not do anything. Cleaned and put away till I build a booth. Ben how long are you going to spend cleaning the sides and top of that booth. And are you using a bathroom fan? Alan. |
