Default Getting the royal run around

G'day all,
Boy it's tough living on the bottom of the world, besides having to hang on with your toes, information seems to float upwards.

I'm slowly getting to the bottom of the problem but it sure has been quite a few miles on a gravel road.

Those regulars will remember when I bought my new u-beaut Ex-21 saw a few months ago, I had few problems with it.
Ajay was great source of information and his tips helped. Here is the full story so far.

A few days after receiving the saw I sent an email to General Int. requesting some assistance with the back to front action of the blade- NO REPLY.

I rang the Company I purchased the saw from to ask for help in setting it up, but ran full tilt
into a brick wall.
Not a clue on how to adjust the blade movement and another problem was that the positive locks on the bevel gauge were not in the correct position and it was impossible to move the dial any further in the required direction as it was hard up against the holding screws - Suggestion "File out the screw slots so that I had more movement".

Well I stuffed around with the saw and almost have it set up right with just a couple of concerns, above being one and a .58mm side to side movement of the blade, so I thought (I know its unusual, but I really did ) bugger it, I'll give Ray a call at Seyco and see what he has to say.
Well it took a week to get through to him, and it meant ringing at all hours of the night as you blokes have the sun and moon A about F.

Back to Ray, I reckon he must have a very flat ear, because every time I rang, the phone would ring out and go to his answering system, I never wanted to leave a message as I never wanted to impose an international call on him.

HOO-RAY, Ray finally answered his phone, but said he couldn't help unless General Int. authorised it, fair enough, he gave me the name of a bloke to contact.
I'll give them a ring, as they don't answer emails.

Guess what, I got through on the first try, but .......... wait for it...........

It was a bloody public holiday and General Int. was closed.

Well tried again last night, and Trevor, at G I was very nice although a bit stunned at having a call from Oz, said to ring Ray as he was the Ducks Guts when it came to the saws.

So I'll Start again tonight.

Oh gosh, it sounds terrible! I like your photo though. I missed the thread of when you got your new saw. I had a saw that had the same symptoms, i.e. front to back motion as well as side to side motion of the blade. It turned out the saw was a reject and I got another which had no movement like the previous one. Hopefully you can get through to them soon. Do you know what holiday it was? I can't imagine unless it was Flag Day, June 14, although I don't know anyone who closes on that day. Hope you resolve it soon!

G"day Mia,
General International is in Montreal, Canada so I'm guessing that the Holiday was Jun 24 St. Jean Baptiste Day.

I don't know what it's for, but it seems to be a local holiday.

Thanks for the encouragement

Sorry to hear about your runaround issues. Might want to cut the middle men totally out of the loop and go directly to the Excaliber folks. However remeber to document all contact with anyone that is dealing with the saw. Any way to make a long reply shorter I hope you get this resolved soon and to your satisfaction.

Youch! I hope you get this stuff resolved soon John. I know Ray will be able to guide you through what you need but hopefully that's not a new saw.

Hi John: Sorry to hear about your problem. A suggestion; have you ensured that the left side set screws on the both the upper and lower blade clamps protrude equally? Unless they do, you will have side to side movement in your blade. You may well have another (different) problem, but I thought I'd pass along the above to you for your consideration.

Sorry to hear about your problems John. Sounds like the classic buck passing rule is in effect there. Hope you get it all sorted out and as DW said, document all the calls you make.

Yikes, St. Jean Baptiste day? In Quebec? Gee, that is a HUGE holiday in Quebec. I used to live in Ottawa and all of the Quebecois workers took the day off and were hung over the next day. I would liken it to New Years Eve.

I hope you got your issues resolved.
