That's interesting. I've had just the opposite results. I don't like spirals anyway, but some of the FD's I tried a little over a year ago, would break before even getting them tensioned properly. I've never had this problem with Olsons. Admittedly, I only use them when necessary.

WElll, I haven't had any problems with Olsen blades yet,,,,, YET,,,, but then I haven't tried the spirals .regular blades, do dull alot faster though... I have problems with all spirales. my problems are always in reclamping them. they seem to twist. no matter the regular or flat ones. so what I do. being a bottom feeder. is put them in the bottom clamp. that stays all the time. then when I change holes. I take the blade out of the top clamp like always. then feed it through a hole. then take the bottom clamp, with the blade still in it, off its fork. and then put the blade back in the top clamp, , then put the bottom clamp with blade in, twisting it as needed, back into the bottom clamp, fork. then tention it . that way it doesn't get all messed up on the top clamp. but then, my top clamp doesn't twist the blade. it has a bearing or whateve on it, that push's on the blade it doesn't twist it. maybe thats why. anyway. thats what i do. your friend Evie

Thanks Guys - I have noticed that the FD's spirals I have, have smaller ends (length) then the Olson's - The Olson's have longer ends and smaller cutting area -Is that what you have with the spirals?

I just got my first spirals yesterday, they are Olsen. I'm using 2/0 and cut a simple horse with a single blade tonight. The blade did not break and seemed to cut just fine. After I finished, my eight year old daughter cut a squirel with the same blade and it also cut just fine.

Man they sure cut a lot different than flat blades. I'm not ready to give up yet, but it is going to take some practice to get good with them.

I am not normally a proponent of any particular blade manufacturer but have Mike at FD send you a couple of samples of the "NEW 2/0 spirals" They are wound a bit tighter and at least for me much more controlable.
Also make sure your saw stroke (front to back) is as vertical as possible.
