Default 1st Thoughts re" Ex-21

Yippee-ki-yay, a big green and orange box turned up today,

Ended up shelling out just over a grand with delivery included.

1st thought - it's bloody heavy.

2nd - It's not as bright as "old Yella"

3rd - The manual is bit doctored- obviously printed for an older model and has been updated by loose pages inserted and some stapled in place. (That don't matter cause real men don't read instructions)

No cast . The machine is made from serious plate steel and looks like a bit of pride went into the construction.

Sitting beside the Dewalt, the difference in quality is easy to see, just like the Dewalt sitting next to my Delta and the Delta compared to the Ryobi.

Mind you it bloody well should be, considering the price difference

I'm halfway through making some display shelves for my Market stall at the moment, so I'll be a good patient little boy and resist the temptation to play until this evening.

One other thing. The blade tube racks look neat, but I doubt if I'll use them as open tubes sitting below the table hight are bound to get full of sawdust.

Will expand on this as things progress.

Hey John,
Congrats on your new toy, I haven't been reading all of the posts lately, so this was new news to me recently, but Goodon ya Mate, you of all people deserve some new tools for all the work you do.
I look forward to your new shop, totally redesigned around your new saw!!!
I hope that doesn't put too much pressure on

Your Mate,
Tom

John, my EX-21 came with a dozen tubes with caps on them. They are the pop off type cap. Mine also is an updated model from what you usually see pictured. The most obvious difference is in the blade tensioning device. It is no longer a horizontal swing lever up front and there is a course adjustment screw with knob at the rear. Also, unless I missed something, the arm, which swings up when you release the blade, does not stay up. I think I read somewhere that it does. No biggie for me. Anyway, enjoy your new toy. I hope you like it and that it performs well for you.

The saw runs so smooth. It makes cutting even more of a pleasure.
My upper arm does stay up by itself. I did notice when I unpacked the box the notice that was taped to the upper arm said "DO NOT LIFT FROM HERE"

Good thing because that's how I used to lug my old saws around.
The saw could have used a work light and the dust collector should have been standard. It is slightly annoying to have dust falling onto the knees and onto the tilt mechanism.

I know they sell a dust collecting shroud and port but I feel at the price it should have been included.

The first couple of times I used it I couldn't get the blade tension to work properly. After closer examination I saw that I hadn't lowered the upper arm completely. Perhaps, if I had have graduated from Old Yella I would have know about that. A detent or an indicator would have been a nice feature.
Or maybe I could have read it in the manual.

I agree John, real men don't read manuals.....good job I am not a pilot.

As for the dust collector. I have the same vacuum as Bob in Whitby does and I think I will mount the hose under the table. I will just make a bracket with magnetic catches to hold it in place.

Carl Ray at SEYCO Can help you with the arm staying up. Mine stays up OK. But there is an adjustment screw or bolt that adjust it. Also post a pic of your dust collector when you get it made. Have a great day.

John B. Control your self. You will be grinning from ear to ear so much it hurts in no time.. Excalibur Rules !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've got mine last summer and still cant stop smiling... and giggling like a school girl

Congratulations John, I'm sure you will notice a difference as soon as you start cutting. I know I did with my saw.

I'll be really interested to hear what you think of it compared to Ole Yellow. I have a DeWalt now and it's starting (well past starting!) to show signs of wanting to retire. Keep us posted!
